Adoption Homestudies

An adoption homestudy is a compilation of your family's history and supporting documentation that may be used by your agency or attorney to match your family with a birth family and will be reviewed by the court when your adoption is finalized.

During the homestudy process, you will be asked to gather supporting documents. Your social worker will meet with you for 3-4 sessions to gather history and will make at least one home visit. Criminal and child abuse background checks will also be conducted. It is recommended to budget $800-1200 for your homestudy and to allow 4-6 weeks to complete the process.

Post-placement reports are often requested prior to finalization. Your social worker will come to your home to see how your family is adjusting to life with a child and send the requested documentation to your attorney and/or agency. Post-placement reporting is $150 per home visit and report.
